Psychotherapy

The focus of psychotherapy is to help individuals develop a greater sense of purpose, meaning, and connection in their lives.

There is no perfect time to start—it is a process and a journey. However, It is often during an ebb moment that we seek out support.

ebb —as a term used in therapy—refers to decreasing the intensity of the experience, emotions, thoughts and sensations that are occurring. Often, the first place we begin therapy is by learning some coping mechanisms and ways to manage our emotions, thoughts, and sensations. We then come to a place of understanding, creating awareness around our behaviours and emotions, and then integrate the experience.

Areas of Practice

Meditation

Mindfulness is a state of active, open attention to the present. When you’re mindful, you observe your thoughts and feelings from a distance without judging them as good or bad. Mindfulness means living in the moment and awakening to experience that which is here and now.

Mindful meditation comes in a wide range of forms, from body scans to listening attentively, from walking meditations to sitting still. In meditation courses, we explore many different methods to find the mindful practice best suited to each of us. The gifts of mindfulness are subtle yet extensive. It takes time and trust in the process to exercise our brains in this way.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction

MBSR is a group program that focuses on the progressive acquisition of mindful awareness. The goal of the program is to learn how to incorporate mindfulness into our everyday lives. Jon Kabat-Zinn has defined mindfulness as “moment-to-moment, non-judgmental awareness.” Mindfulness is a wonderful tool to help us be aware of our thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations without judging them.

The MBSR program is an eight-week workshop that gives insight into three formal techniques: mindfulness meditation, body scanning, and simple yoga postures. MBSR is based on the following tenets: non-judging, non-striving, acceptance, letting go, beginner’s mind, patience, trust, and non-centering.
